Sony Ericsson starts taking submissions for Android version of PlayNow

Sony Ericsson starts taking submissions for Android version of PlayNow

Manufacturers and carriers are showing commendable restraint in avoiding totally bastardized, walled-garden versions of Android on their handsets (for the most part), but they're not avoiding it altogether -- take Sony Ericsson here, for instance. The company has announced that it's expanding the reach of its PlayNow app store to cover Android in concert with its launch of the X10, which presumably means that users will be juggling a minimum ... Read More

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and HTC HD2 knock on T-Mobile door

Yep, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 passed through FCC testing and it and the HTC HD2 both are on their way to T-Mobile USA. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 has obviously passed through the scrutiny of the Federal commission, but the interesting part is the 3G test. The tested UMTS bands were I, ... Read More

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 slips back to 2010

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 slips back to 2010

When the rumor mill was still churning in full force over the Xperia X2, one thing seemed to be popping up fairly consistently: a January 2010 launch date. It seemed pretty solid. When Sony Ericsson made the handset official, however, they proclaimed that it wouldn’t ship in 2010, but sometime in the fourth quarter of 2009. Fingers were crossed, and breaths were held – alas, it’s not going to happen. In what ... Read More

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 to be delayed until January 2010

Samsung beats 2009 mobiles target 200 million mark broken

Samsung has exceeded its target for mobile phone sales in 2009, with the electronics giant breaking its self-imposed 200 million handset goal. Samsung is the second biggest seller in the mobile phone world, and after narrowly missing out on the 200 million mark in 2008, it was confident of breaking it this year. And that confidence was not misplaced, with the company now stating that it has surpassed its target, in a ... Read More

Sony Ericsson Satio sales suspended

Sony Ericsson Satio sales suspended

Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U have withdrawn the Sony Ericsson Satio from sale due to "buggy" software. The stores have temporarily halted sales of the Satio until manufacturer Sony Ericsson offers fixes for issues that customers raised, which include random powering-down and slowness. (See our review for some user comments that have raised similar issues). Apparently, a firmware upgrade won't fix the issue, so the handsets must be recalled. Speaking to The Times, Richard ... Read More
