The Acer Liquid Mini also comes with a five megapixel camera, and it is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm processor, and will have 512MB of RAM and ROM.

The Acer Liquid Mini will also come with a microSD card slot, with a 2GB card installed which can be upgraded to a 32GB microSD card. Other features include Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi and an FM radio.

There are no details as yet on how much the Acer Liquid Mini will retail for when it goes on sale in the UK in April.

During a Press Conference in New York earlier this week, an Acer Official said that AT&T and T-Mobile  are considering launching the Acer Liquid Metal. These are two major GSM carriers in the USA, so maybe we will see this handset on AT&T or T-Mobile soon. Rogers Wireless is bringing the Acer Liquid Metal in Canada, so hopefully Rogers will launch it soon.

Acer Liquid Metal features the same 800 MHz powerful processor we saw in the T-Mobile G2. Other features are a 3.6-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) capacitive touch screen, Android OS 2.2, 5 megapixel camera with an LED Flash, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi b/g/n wireless connectivity, DLNA/UPnP support, and Dolby Surround Sound. The specs are very good overall, and the Acer Liquid Metal also has a stainless steel back cover, that’s why they call it Liquid “Metal“.

The Liquid Metal also supports DLNA/UPnP technology for streaming media content to other DLNA devices, such as TVs and game consoles. Wi-Fi hotspot support is also included.

Acer also loaded Breeze on the Liquid Metal, a new user interface that helps users manage applications easier. You’ll be able to view information when the screen is locked, customize your homescreen, and more. A SocialJogger application integrates Facebook and Twitter feeds, too.

The Liquid Metal will be offered in brown for £299 ($476) in mid-November. A silver version is expected to hit the market in early December.

So what’s under the hood of this Ferrari? Acer Liquid E Ferrari comes with Android 2.1, Qualcomm 8250 Snapdragon processor, a 5 MP camera, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen, as well as some Ferrari-specific enhancements. There are also some exclusive features in the phone, like the Ferrari wallpapers which will rock on your homescreen, mind blowing images and some videos. There’s also some Ferrari-engine ringtones, which will remind of a Ferrari everytime your phone rings. It’s a unique and lightweight phone, and a must buy for folks who love Ferrari.

However, that hasn’t worried Acer in the slightest nor has it stopped them producing another Android touting handset, seemingly. This is the Acer Liquid Metal, which is said to be positioned somewhere in between the E and the Stream in the Liquid series. So, that’s likely to put it directly in contention with the likes of the HTC Wildfire which means that it had better have a pretty impressive spec list as well as a reasonable price tag if it wants even a glimmer of hope of establishing itself.

Looking at the specs we know so far, the Liquid Metal doesn’t look likely to disappoint, we’re talking an aluminium/metallic body, camera with flash, an 800 MHz Qualcomm processor, 512Mb RAM and 512 MB of ROM as well as a 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display (WVGA resolution and support for 16m colours). There’s also said to be Bluetooth 3.0 and Dolby Mobile Technology. But, the real feather in the Liquid Metals cap? It’s said to be shipping with Android 2.2 Froyo albeit with Acer’s proprietary skin, Shell 4.0, on top. If it turns out that this handset also touts Wi-Fi, HSDPA and a resonable price tag, Acer could really be on to a winner.

Acer jumped headfirst into the mobile phone market this year, mostly relying on the tried and true PocketPC. They are readying themselves for year two and are promising a balanced WinMo / Android mix. This week marks the launch of their first attempt at an Android phone – the Acer Liquid.

The Acer Liquid runs Android 1.6 Donut on a Snapdragon CPU (clocked at 768MHz) with a WVGA touchscreen and a 5MP camera – not bad for their first try. It’s very similar in hardware to the Acer neoTouch. It left us with mixed feelings, although that was mostly because of how little was done to improve the vanilla WinMo (which no longer cuts the mustard).

There are interesting things happening in the tech world – computer manufacturers (Dell, Toshiba, HP and of course Apple) are getting into the smartphone business, while Nokia released a netbook – the Nokia Booklet 3G. Oh, and bridging the two worlds are things like the Acer Aspire One AOD 250, which dualboots Windows XP and Android.

Going back to Acer, they won’t try to fight the big, well established manufacturers but instead release about 10 phones a year. This echoes Apple’s approach – focus on a handful of device and try and make them as good as possible. That seems to work well for Apple – iPods, iPhones, they’re everywhere you look.

Acer think it will work for them too – they are targeting a 6-7% market share for smartphones in three to five years. Their strategy relies on the falling prices of smartphones, which in turn increases their numbers compared to feature phones. Current predictions have Acer reaching the 1 million phones sold mark some time next year.

Right now, Clove UK has the Acer Liquid on preorder for 286 pounds (329 US dollars) for the UK. Expansys Spainn has it on preorder too for 340 euro (508 US dollars). The Acer Liquid is also expected to hit France in December.

Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica, or Galaxy Lite, if you prefer, is official as it gets. Not only is the I5700 the fastest gun in the Android crowd with its 800MHz CPU, but it’s also cheaper than the original Samsung Galaxy.

But let’s start from the basics – the Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica has been sitting in our rumor mill section for a while now and it seemed to be the baby brother of I7500 Galaxy, which we reviewed just recently. The “Galaxy Lite” certainly seemed to suggest it.

The CPU is interesting because the original Galaxy ran the 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor. But with 800MHz the Spica beats even the Acer Liquid, which until now held the crown for speediest CPU in the Android world – a 768MHz Snapdragon. Liquid still has a lead in RAM – 256MB – versus the 128 of both Galaxy phones.

The rest of the features are very close to those of I7500 Galaxy, save for the lack of internal memory and the camera. Galaxy Spica comes with a 3.2MP camera and support for microSD cards up to 32GB instead. The display is the same size at 3.2″ (though the press release is mum about whether it’s AMOLED and capacitive or not) as is the battery of 1,500mAh. The I5700 is a “Google experience” phone, so it’s connected to Google’s services.

The Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica will be available in Russia in November for 1,4000 rubles (320 euro or 480 dollars). There’s no word on availability in other locations but it shouldn’t be long now.
