The official upgrade for Sprint’s EVO 4G smartphone from HTC is being rolled out now according to a few lucky recipients. The firmware upgrade is for the device’s operating system, which moves the EVO 4G up to Android 2.2 aka Froyo. The upgrade is being pushed out over-the-air now and is the first carrier to offer Android 2.2 to its customers.
Users who cannot wait can also choose to manually initiate the update process by going to their phone’s settings menu and navigating to System Updates and selecting HTC Software Update. The Android 2.2 Froyo update is expected to greatly increase the performance of 3rd party applications and the Android web browser, in addition to offering users new functionality.
