Online retailer Expansys is now offering the Android powered Acer A1 for pre-order (in German). Back in June, when Acer joined Android’s Open Handset Alliance(INFO), it promised that its first Android handsets would be available in Q4 of this year. This move by Expansys seems to suggest that may indeed happen.
There are some questions, though. Expansys has the device listed as running on the Android 2.0 platform, which is mislabeled as “Donut.” Donut is, indeed, the next version of the Android platform, but it is version 1.6, not 2.0. If the A1 is truly planned to run on Android 2.0, it is unlikely that we will see it before the end of the year since the very first 1.6 (Donut) devices, since as the HTC Tattoo, are just coming to market now.
Expansys lists the specs of the A1 as including a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display, 850/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSPA connectivity (would work on AT&T), quad-band GSM/EDGE support, and built-in GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi.
