Reuters reports that Comcast is planning to offer its customers the ability to watch cable subscription services on mobile devices through its wireless WiMAX network, quoting Comcast Chief Financial Officer Michael Angelakis. The company is also considering delivering voice services over the network, but Angelakis says that it is too early to reveal details on that possibility.
It would be the second time that Comcast attempted to launch mobile voice services, the first being a failed mobile venture with Sprint last year. Comcast’s WiMAX network is a joint venture with Clearwire, with which Sprint is also involved.
Update: GigaOM has read through the transcript that the Reuters story is based upon, and has pointed out that the Reuters story seems to be mostly wishful thinking when it comes to TV over WiMAX and Comcast offering mobile voice service.
