Toshiba Brings Out The 12-Megapixel Regza IS04 Android Handset

Toshiba is apparently also interested in making Android handset and it’s recent model, the Regza IS04, comes with a very interesting feature, an extraordinarily powerful camera.

The Toshiba Regza IS04 is going to be the first Android handset ready to offer a 12-megapixel camera, not that we need such powerful cameras in smartphones, do we?

The Regza IS04 comes with other interesting specs and features too: 4-inch FWVGA display, 854 x 480 resolution, WiFi, Bluetooth, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1, at least for now, with Froyo coming thereafter.

We have no idea how much this Toshiba Android handset is going to cost but we have plenty of time to find that out as the phone is only coming out at some point in January 2011 from KDDI, in Japan.

Toshiba K01 goes official as IS02 in Japan

Talk about a globetrotter. Toshiba’s K01 has made the journey from the American FCC to a Japanese carrier in the space of just one day. AU, part of the KDDI group and one of Japan’s big three network operators, has picked up the phone and promptly renamed it the IS02. Coming with a 1GHz Snapdragon core, a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen of the AMOLED variety, and that indispensable (for some) QWERTY keyboard, this WinMo 6.5 handset will be available to our Japanese comrades in the latter part of June this year. Given the long waiting times both for this and its brandmate, the IS01, we have to wonder what’s up with Japanese carriers. Have they developed an aversion to the cutting edge or what?

Toshiba Dynapocket X02T from SoftBank

Yesterday we reported that SoftBank is coming out with 17 phones for the winter, and one of them was the Toshiba Dynapocket X02T.

The Dynapocket is what many see as an iPhone clone, and it runs on Windows Mobile 6.5. It also has a 3G network, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, plus access to YouTube and Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

Yesterday we reported that SoftBank is coming out with 17 phones for the winter, and one of them was the Toshiba Dynapocket X02T.

Dynario: Toshiba finally commercializes fuel cell for mobile devices

Toshiba has been announcing fuel cells for home use for ages now, but it seems the announcement [press release in English] they made today is really serious. The company has unveiled the Dynario today, a mini fuel cell that can charge mobile devices on the go. Japanese mobile gadget geeks can already order the fuel cell on Toshiba Japan’s online store (where it’s available exclusively).

Buyers get a methanol fuel cell that’s fairly large (size: 150×21×74.5mm), heavy (280g without fuel) and holds 14ml of fuel. Cartridges, which have to be bought separately, cost $32 for a set of five and hold 50ml each. The reaction between the methanol and ambient oxgyen triggers a chemical reaction, which then results in the production of electricity.

Shipping will start on October 29. The new technology comes at a high price though: Be ready to spend $320 for the fuel cell. Toshiba hasn’t said yet whether it will ever be sold outside Japan, but my guess is the company will see how sales go in Japan first.

Toshiba officially announces TG01 Windows Phone

It’s Windows Phone day, and as you may imagine that means a spate of 6.1 phones being given the big Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade – including the powerful and super-sized Toshiba TG01 phone.

The Toshiba TG01 made a big splash when it arrived, but earned criticism for its tired Windows Mobile 6.1 interface.

So the arrival of 6.5 and the Windows Phone brand has handed the phone a handy new opportunity to impress and, as you would expect, Tosh has quickly made an announcement about availability.

Immediate adoption

“The arrival of Windows Mobile 6.5 and Toshiba’s immediate adoption of the platform for the TG01 sees the handset become a fully-certified Windows phone,” said Toshiba’s release.

“The updated TG01 Windows phone is available in stores across Europe from today. Toshiba customers who have previously purchased the TG01 will also be entitled to an upgrade to the new Windows Mobile 6.5, free of charge.”

It’s not going to be the last in a long list of announcements as what Microsoft terms the ‘Windows Mobile ecosystem’ races to embrace the newest version of the mobile OS from Redmond.

Toshiba Biblio ebook Reader Phones Get a Morphpad Display

Virtual keyboards are no longer new to us and now another mobile phone is set to adapt the said technology. Multi-Fineline Electronics has announced the integration of their MFLEX Pelikon technology which will now be integrated into Toshiba Bibilio ebook reader mobile phones.

The device now features a touch screen with a slide-out keyboard using the Morphpad display as a numeric keyboard in portrait mode and as a full QWERTY keyboard in landscape orientation. The Morphpad is power efficient and is visible in any lighting condition. It can also be customized as far as brightness or contrast depending on the user’s preference.
