The phone — a follow-up to the original myTouch 4G that launched last year — reportedly sports a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA display, support for 1080p HD video recording, a forward-facing camera for video chats, 768MB of RAM and, as its name implies, support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. T-Mobile has been tight lipped on the myTouch 4G Slide, but the increasing leaks certainly suggest that the phone’s release is imminent. Hit the jump for a few more images.

T-Mobile has packed G2x with some real solid specs. The phone is equipped with an 8 mega-pixel rear facing camera which supports 1080p HD video recording. Apart from it, it also allows T-Mobile TV on-demand video streaming and through Nvidia Tegra Zone you can enjoy games as per your choice. The phone also has a 1.3 mega pixel web cam and supports external memory of 32GB. Local connectivity in the device is facilitated by the presence of Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

One can buy T-Mobile G2x online from the website of T-Mobile for $ 200. The phone will be available from the T-Mobile stores from April 20. So if you want a really powerful smartphone with a powerful processor to enhance your Android experience then you can go for T-Mobile G2x.

T-Mobile confirmed on its Twitter account today that the device will be launching on April 20 where the device will join a growing line-up of 4G HSPA+ devices. Of course, we sort of already knew that when RadioShack spilled the beans last week.

In case you didn’t already know, the Sidekick 4G is running Android 2.2 Froyo and is made by Samsung, instead of Sharp or Motorola as we’ve grown accustomed to in the past. It also has a custom UI to set it apart from other Android devices, and of course, it’s 4G HSPA+ capable, which makes it the fastest Sidekick device ever. And because it’s no longer tied to the Danger servers, the one thing this Sidekick won’t be plagued with is all those outages that Sidekick users of yesteryear used to suffer.

Other specs include a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, mobile hotspot capabilities, Wi-Fi calling and that five-row keyboard we all loved. It also comes with two new messaging features called Sidekick Group Text and Cloud Text:

Sidekick’s Group Text feature lets customers create, name, manage and participate in reply-all group text conversations, enabling them to lead their network in conversation and social planning. Group Text breathes new life into one of the most popular forms of messaging allowing Sidekick 4G customers to initiate and share the benefit of the application with SMS-capable devices from flip phones to smartphones. In addition, Cloud Text provides the option to text with friends or groups across platforms, whether from the comfort of their PC’s large screen and keyboard, or from their new Sidekick 4G.

In all, it’s not a shabby smartphone! It has all the perks you’d expect from Android 2.2, including Adobe Flash and access to tens of thousands of apps in the Android Market, but its design and keyboard are still similar to its predecessors. So, who’s going out to grab one?

The G2x has a 4-inch touchscreen and is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. It runs a stock version of Android 2.2 Froyo and is pre-loaded with games such as Need For Speed SHIFT HD and a demo of N.O.V.A. It also offers T-Mobile TV, which includes both on-demand and live streaming of TV shows.

The smartphone is equipped with an 8 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and an LED flash, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. Pre-loaded is T-Mobile Video Chat app, which is a customized version of the popular Qik app for video conferencing. The rear camera is capable of recording 1080p (1920×1080 pixels) video, which can then be broadcast over DLNA wirelessly or via HDMI cable to a compatible HD TV.

The G2x comes with 8GB of internal storage with support for microSD up to 32GB. It also has Bluetooth 2.1 with stereo and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

The G2x will be available this spring with pricing yet to be announced.

T-Mobile didn’t find it worthy of an OTA update, so if you’re looking to update your Garminfone, you’ll have to do it manually. Luckily, manually updating software is fairly easy on Android. Even after the update, the handset may not be your first choice in Android phones, but we’re definitely glad it has been given a nice step up with Android 2.1. Will this make the handset more desirable? Sure. Would we recommend it? Not really.

Any Android update that’s takes the Garminfone past Android 1.6 OS is a good thing, so there’s already some value being added to the handset. If you’re one of those who purchased the handset, you may want to update your software as soon as possible. If you’ve had no qualms with the Garminfone, then you’ll definitely realize what you’ve been missing all along.

It would be nice to see this handset get the Android 2.2 Froyo update at some point, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t. If a much older phone like the MyTouch 3G can receive Froyo, then the Garminfone should be able to handle the update. We’re not holding our breath, but it should have the guts inside to be able to support at least one more Android OS update.

A month ago the two handsets surfaced on the T-Mobile US website but back then there was no word on their market launch and prices. Well, here are the answers of all unanswered questions.

The life-proof Motorola DEFY is IP67-certified, meaning it has protection against water, dust, accidental drops and the 3.7″ touchscreen of WVGA resolution is covered with a Gorilla Glass. Underneath you’ll find a MOTOBLUR-ed Eclair (there is no word on any Froyo updates yet) served with a 5MP autofocus snapper, an 800MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and good 2GB of storage.

Here, in Europe, the DEFY is priced at 350 euro (without contract) while over at the T-Mobile USA stores it is selling for only 380 US dollars (around 270 euro, without contract). And if you don’t mind signing a 2-year contract with T-Mobile you could get it for 100 US dollars (or 71 euro).

By the way, there are two color versions of the Motorola DEFY – Black and White/Black, but T-Mobile is offering only the second one.

As for the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, it looks a lot like the QWERTY-fied T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide with one obvious difference. The myTouch 4G lacks a hardware QWERTY keyboard. But its screen is larger (3.8″ as opposed to the 3.4″ one of the myTouch 3G Slide).

On top of that, the myTouch 4G is HSPA+ capable (that’s what the “4G” in the smartphone’s name stands for), runs the Android 2.2 a.k.a. Froyo and comes in 4 flavors – Black, White, Red and Plum.

The contract-free price of the T-Mobile myTouch 4G is 450 US dollars (320 euro) but it can drop down to 200 US dollars (around 142 euro) if you sign a new contract with T-Mobile.

The T-Mobile Comet is going to cost $9.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a 2-year contract. The phone will be available for prepay customers from Target, Radio Shack or Best Buy for less than $200. The LG Optimus T will cost $29.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a new 2-year contract.

Last but not least we have the Motorola Defy, a rugged Android handset, and the most expensive of the series at $99.99 after $50 mail-in rebate and with a new 2-year contract and the Motorola Charm which will sell for $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate and, again, with a new 2-year contract.

The myTouch, which measures 122mm x 62mm x 11mm (4.8in x 2.44in x 0.43in) and weighs 141.7g (5oz), offers a large 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen and a 5 megapixel camera that’s capable of recording HD video. There’s also a front-facing video camera for video chatting using Yahoo Messenger or Qik. The phone is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor. Adobe Flash 10.1 content is supported in the web browser, and users can choose to surf the web over 802.11b/g/n WiFi networks. The myTouch will offer support for UMA based WiFi calling, as well.

The device will come preloaded with “Rock Band,” “Asphalt 5,” and “Monopoly.” T-Mobile will also offer its T-Mobile TV service on the device, which will provide ABC News Now, Fox Sports, PBS Kids, and Disney, Univision content.

T-Mobile plans to launch the myTouch in time for the holidays, and will sell it in white, black, plum, and red. The company has not yet announced pricing for the phone.

The device, of course, is the followup to the world’s first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1. It will launch with Android 2.2 and from the looks of the press release, it appears that it will be stock Android (Like the original, HTC makes the T-Mobile G2).

The T-Mobile G2 is Google to the gills, as it will come with Quick Keys to Google services like Google Voice Actions, Google Maps and other software from the search giant.

Perhaps more importantly, this is the first device that can access the T-Mobile HSPA+ 3G network. T-Mobile was a joke in mobile data services a few years ago but its HSPA+ 3G network is nothing to sneeze at – this offers 21 Mbps (that’s theoretical, look for about 14 Mbps or so in optimal conditions with the T-Mobile G2).

As expected, the T-Mobile G2 will come with the Snapdragon MSM7230 mobile processor with a 800 MHz CPU. I know devices like the Sprint EVO 4G and the Droid X have seemingly made a 1 GHz processor seem like the standard but numbers aren’t everything, as we’ll be curious to see how a stock version of the Android 2.2 runs on some optimized hardware.

Look for a 3.7-inch display but there’s no concrete word if it’s AMOLED or Sony’s Super LCD. It will also have a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video, a pre-installed 8 GB memory with support for up to 32 GB, GPS, Bluetooth and all the goodies you expect from a device of this class.

“One of the advantages of an open platform is the opportunity for developers to create rich mobile experiences and seamlessly get those experiences into the hands of consumers,” said Andy Rubin, vice president, engineering, Google, in a prepared statement. “From new services, such as Voice Actions, to mobile applications, developer-led Android innovation is flourishing. On Android Market alone, the number of applications available to consumers has grown from just 50 applications two years ago to more than 80,000 applications today.”

The T-Mobile G2 will be available for preorder to Magenta customers “later this month.” No word on pricing or release date but I’d bet on a $200 subsidized price with a new contract and a release date by late September.

With stellar Android devices like the EVO 4G, Droid X and the Samsung Galaxy lineup, our resident Android head Blake asked if the T-Mobile G2 can compete.

The myTouch 3G Slide was announced only three weeks ago and now you can register your interest in it on the operator’s website. To refresh your memory, the side-slider runs a highly customized Android OS v2.1 and features a large 3.4″ HVGA capacitive touchscreen, full QWERTY-keyboard and all-you-can-eat connectivity.

On top of that you get a 5MP autofocus snapper on the back, a built-in GPS receiver and a spacious 8GB microSD card which comes along with the smartphone itself.

The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide is coming on 2 June in black, white or red color and can be yours for 179.99 US dollars (after a 50-US-dollar mail-in rebate) with a new 2-year contract or for 399 US dollars without contract.
