Kineto Wireless were the company to bring this unannounced LG handset to the party, along with a bunch of others intended for the US market, and the rep on hand dropped the name Flip II to the Pocket-lint sleuths. There’s also the possibility that what we’re eyeing is the LG Maxx Q, which has popped up on a recently leaked T-Mo USA roadmap, though that Android 1.6 wallpaper could mean that this is just an aged prototype that never saw the light of retail day. Now LG is bringing the dual screen QWERTY clamshell form factor back in the shape of the “Genesis”. According to Android Central  it runs Android 2.2, has an external 3.5 inch touch screen, an internal 3.2 inch touch screen, both have a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 5 megapixel camera, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a whopping 1500 mAh battery. It’ll launch on US Cellular, but a release date and price tag have yet to be revealed.

Now raise your hand if you think the Genesis is a stupid idea. Screens aren’t exactly cheap, so this thing is going to cost a bit more than your average smartphone. That and why couldn’t LG think up a hinge design similar to that found in tablet PCs that can convert between slate and full blown laptop mode? If this thing hits the market and fails to sell, we’re not going to be shocked. In fact, we hope US Cellular rethinks their decision to offer this heinous looking thing and instead wait for handset makers to come up with a more refined QWERTY packing Android device. We’ve got high hopes for the as yet to be revealed HTC Doubleshot, but without renders all we have is our imagination to think of what it’ll look like.

We don’t have all the details at the moment, except that LG’s smartphone will be available at some point this month. Moreover, it is said that Orange will offer the Optimus Black free of charge to the users willing to commit on at least 18-month contract that includes mobile data.

You may remember that LG Optimus Black is a super-slim device with a 4-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen (so called Nova display), 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with HD video recording capability, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, and TI’s 1GHz OMAP processor. Out of box, LG’s smartphone runs Android 2.2 Froyo but will be upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

In LG’s homeland of South Korea, the Optimus Big has been officially announced under the guise of the LG LU6800. For the meantime it’s only available in South Korea but if conditions are right, there’s no reason why it couldn’t be pushed westward, although LG haven’t got plans at this point in time.

The LU6800 runs Android Froyo 2.2 out of the box, but it wouldn’t surprise us if it got a Gingerbread update in the near future. It also features a 4.3″ WVGA display, a 5MP autofocus camera on the back and a 1GHz processor. The Optimus Big is exclusively available on South Korea’s 3rd largest carrier LG U+ from April the 28th.

The price, you ask – it’s 454.80 GBP with VAT, though if you can get the taxes back (if you’re a non-EU citizen travelling to the UK), you’ll be able to grab the Optimus 3D for 379 GBP, which is an awesome deal for such a device.

Specs wise, LG’s smartphone comes with the mentioned 3D WVGA capacitive touchscreen, dual 5-megapixel cameras for recording 3D video, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, DLNA, HDMI out, Bluetooth, 8GB of internal memory, which is further expandable with microSD cards. Unfortunately, the Optimus 3D runs Android 2.2 Froyo, though we’re hoping the update will be released in no time…

The phone will be priced at $199.99 with a new two-year service agreement, or $499.99 full retail.

The G2x is a variant of LG’s Optimus 2x that had been previously announced, and which we reviewed earlier this year.

The T-Mobile G2x offers a 4-inch touchscreen and is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor and runs Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. The device has a built-in 8mp rear facing camera as well as user-facing 1.3mp camera for video chatting.

It has also launched the  Optimus Black which has a NOVA display. The company has also revealed that 40% of the phones LG would launch in 2011 would be Smartphones.

The Optimus 2X is a pretty well-speced handset with a 4 inch display, Tegra 2 Dual Core technology  , 8 MP camera with 1080p (full HD) video recording, 512 MB RAM, 8GB internal memory, HDMI

The Optimus Black sports a 4 inch NOVA display and is only a 9.2mm in terms of thickness.

Mr. Vishal Chopra, Business Head, Mobile Communication, LG Electronics India said  “Smart phones have marked the beginning of a new era and undoubtedly 2011 will be the year of smart phones in India. India market is already witnessing a huge demand for these futuristic devices and this demand will tremendously grow in coming years. ”

He also said that innovation  at LG is based on consumer research and one of their goals is to bring the latest smartphones globally for the benefit for consumers. The Optimus 2X was launched in UK recently and the India launch is pretty close .

LG has revealed the price of these 2 handsets. The Optimus 2X will retail for about Rs.30000 and the Optimus Black will be retailing for Rs.27000.

Right now the market is being flooded by cheap Android smartphones such as the Huawei IDEOS  that sells for roughly the same price, but also features 3G and GPS, not to mention access to thousands of applications. Buying a feature phone these days doesn’t make sense and we don’t recommend you pick this up, unless you really just want to throw your money out the window.

If it’s a simple phone you’re after that also has a touch screen then check out Nokia’s Touch and Type lineup. They’ve got the X3 and the C3, the latter having a more traditional design versus the former who tries too hard to be innovative and makes a sacrifice by using a non-standard T9 layout. If you want to save yourself some cash then you should also think about buying something used. There’s absolutely no problems with Nokia’s earlier Symbian devices and you should be able to pick them up for relatively cheap, and again, you’ll have access to plenty of applications and probably a better spec sheet as well.

When will the market for feature phones in Western markets dry up? There’s always Africa and India, but if you’re living in Europe or America then what’s the logic in buying something that doesn’t do anything but call or text?

Based on the Optimus 3D that we got hands-on with at MWC, the LG Thrill 4G has a 4.3-inch screen with that unique 3D capability. Video and stills can be shot in 3D with the 5 megapixel stereoscopic camera. Content will be provided in 3D via the LG 3D Space, including 3D games, video clips, and images.

The Thrill 4G is powered by a dual-core 1 GHz processor with dual-channel memory and runs Android 2.2 Froyo. There is 8 GB of storage built-in, and the phone is capable of recording 3D content in 720p resolution (1280×720 pixels) or 2D content at 1080p (1920×1080 pixels). The Thrill 4G also includes an HDMI-out port to stream content to an HDTV, and features DLNA support for wireless streaming to supported devices.

Pricing and availability for the LG Thrill 4G have yet to be announced.

It recently launched the LG Optimus C, which offers yet another oh-so-slightly-different design along with all the same specs we’ve seen before — a capacitive 3.2-inch HVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, a 600MHz processor, and Android 2.2 with some minor LG customizations. That may not sound like much, but we’ve found the other versions  of the phone to be surprisingly snappy and solid for such a budget-priced smartphone. That budget pricing of course continues on Cricket, which is offering the phone for just $130 after a $20 web discount and $50 mail-in rebated — and, yes, that’s without a long-term contract, although you will apparently have to sign up for Cricket’s $55 a month unlimited Android plan to start with.
