The launch came and went however, and instead of the Bliss, we got the HTC Rhyme — a ‘lifestyle’ phone with a plethora of accessories, all of which you can see in this video review with Amie Parker-Williams.

There’s nothing to say the Rhyme is explicitly just for ladies, but a less than subtle advertising campaign in women’s magazines which pairs the plum-coloured device with similarly hued fashion accessories has led us to suspect that this purple blower, complete with glowing charm, might well be aimed at the female demographic. Quite the detectives, aren’t we?

Take a look at our video review though and you’ll see that the Rhyme isn’t to be sniffed at. It’s classy rather than garishly girly, and while the charm is a little patronising and the earphones are naff, the docking station that’s included is a thoughtful addition that wouldn’t go amiss if it were to be bundled with future HTC phones.

As the HTC Rhyme Review says, the device boasts a 3.7-inch screen, which is modest compared to HTC’s other recent efforts, such as the 4.7-inch displays on the Titan and Sensation XL. HTC’s attractive Sense 3.5 interface, one of our favourite manufacturer-made skins, sits on top of Android Gingerbread 2.3, and makes for a top-notch home screen and scrolling experience.

Overall, this mid-range Android phone has much to recommend it, but we can see neither reason nor rhyme why HTC would feel the need to create a phone specifically for women. Quite frankly, the ladies we know would demand better specs than can be found on the Rhyme — better headphones too, especially considering the partnership between HTC and Beats by Dr Dre.

Average talk time on a single battery charge is 4.60 hours, with a standby time of 12 1/2 days. The HTC Vivid contains a dual core 1.2 GHz QUALCOMM APQ8060 processor, and that is supported by 1.0 GB of RAM memory. 16 GB of onboard storage come built into the handset, and that can be ramped up to 32 GB via the on board microSD slot. A rear facing 8.0 megapixel camera offers autofocus and dual LED flash features, and shoots video in 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p HD) at 30 frames per second. The accompanying 1.3 megapixel front facing chat cam which also offers video call capability can record video in 1280 x 720 pixels (720p HD) at 60 frames per second.

The above-mentioned YouTube video application is on board, and accompanying video and audio players support all major file formats. That on board music player can filter by artist, play list or album, and an FM stereo is also installed. Video out is possible through HDMI access, and wireless connectivity options are offered through Bluetooth version 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n. Now, Pocketnow.com has published the first image of the smartphone, which appears to resemble a thinner HTC Sensation. The HTC Ville is expected to feature an 8-millimeter thick case containing a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, an 8-megapixel camera, HSPA+, a 1,650 mAh battery and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with the HTC Sense 4.0 UI.

AT&T in Nov. released two new 4G LTE devices to U.S. retail.

4G LTE smartphones include HTC Corp.’s HTC Vivid and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

The HTC Vivid includes a 4.5-inch qHD display, 1.2Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 8MP camera with 1080p video recording at 60 frames-per-second, 16GB memory, and Google Inc.’s Android OS with HTC Sense at $199.99 with two-year contract.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket includes a 4.5-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display, 1.5Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 8MP camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 1080p HD recording, 16GB memory, and Google Inc.’s Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS at $249.99 with two-year contract.

4G LTE service launched Nov. 6 in Boston, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Athens, Ga. It plans to reach 15 markets and 70 million Americans by the end of 2011.

AT&T Oct. 14 began sale of Apple Inc.’s iPhone 4S.

It currently holds 96 million subscribers in the U.S.

HTC confirmed that HTC Vivid,  is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich.  Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to  the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through carrier partners.

HTC is continuing the evaluation process to determine what other devices will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sprint  announced via its support forums that ” IN early 2012. Ice Cream Sandwich will be available via an over-the-air update to a variety of devices including HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and other key products in our line-up.” May be some of you are interested in the full features and specs of these smartphones. Sprint recently sent out an OTA update for HTC EVO 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Shift 4G, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC EVO View 4G and HTC Wildfire S to correct a potential issue that could allow malicious third-party apps to compromise data on Android devices made by HTC.

So far Motorola has only committed to the Droid Bionic, Motoroal Xoom and Droid RAZR updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich within six weeks of getting the code from Google.

The Rezound features a 4.3-inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8 megapixel rear facing camera, front facing camera, connectivity for Verizon’s 4G LTE network and built-in Beats Audio.

Quite obviously the device will also ship with special headphones capable of taking advantage of that Beats Audio which will sure to provide audiophiles with a great smartphone. On the software front the HTC Rezound opts for Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 but an Ice Cream Sandwich update has been promised and will be coming quite soon.

Price wise we’re looking at $299.99 with 2-year contract when the HTC Rezound hits Verizon store shelves on November 14th.

Based on the name itself, you can more or less guess what it does. The app now apparently collects data on you, such as logging the apps that you’ve installed, the amount of time spent on each app, open intent and even collects location data. The collected data is said to be then sent to a cloud where HTC or other companies will be able to use the information for their own purposes.

Based on the data collected it appears that the data will most probably be used to filter content and collect behavioral data on apps – what they’re used for and how long they’re used for which will most likely end up being used for marketing purposes. Either way it feels kind of creepy, and the kicker is that according to your phone’s legal notice (Settings > About Phone > Legal > HTC Legal), you have agreed to this.

The good news is that TrevE and Team Synergy have released a ROM that has removed the spyware, but that would mean you would have to root your device if you haven’t already. Head on down to XDA’s forums for more information about the ROM and how to install it.

For those of you not in the know, the HTC Bliss is HTC’s attempt at capturing the women’s market – by pumping out a mediocre-spec’d Android phone that comes loaded with software designed for women. A few HTC EVO 3D users posting on the Phandroid forum, posted that the “Black Screen of Death” had happened to their phone. All were using stock versions of the device with none of the phones rooted or revised in any manner. Those who are within their 30 day return window or have insurance have no worries. Others might have to convince the appropriate Sprint executive that they are entitled to a new unit. One Phandroid forum poster was able to get a new unit, but only after arguing up a mountain of executives.
