After the decent dual-SIM GSmart S1205 running on Windows Mobile 6.5, Gigabyte is ready to take their dual-SIM business over at the Android camp. The GSmart Rola runs Android v2.2 Froyo but packs barely decent specs – a 3.2-inch resistive WQVGA touchscreen, a 528MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, a 3 megapixel fixed-focus snapper and a microSD slot.

The Rola’s connectivity however has everything covered – Wi-Fi, quad-band GSM, 3G with HSDPA support, GPS (with aGPS support and digital compass), Bluetooth and even FM radio. We suppose the 3G would be available only on one of the SIMs though.

Gigabyte GSmart Rola will launch in Q1 2011 in selected regions with an expected retail pricetag of 175 euro.

Yesterday Windows Mobile 6.5 got official, i.e. it was the day when devices running the new OS version were first released on the market. Now, just a few hours later what we´ve got in our hands is an extremely interesting Windows phone – the GIGA-BYTE GSmart S1200. We first saw it at MWC 2009, where it got showcased along with its sibling, the GIGA-BYTE GSmart MS820 and did manage to grip our undivided attention with a stylish design and unconventional interface.

With its compact size and glossy, metal framed face the GIGA-BYTE GSmart S1200 took to us the minute we set our eyes on it. We also like its display that measures 3.1-inches, comes with WVGA resolution and delivers crystal-clear image quality. The back is made of plastic and doesn´t look nearly as impressive, but feels nice and unlikely to inadvertently slip out of your hand. The panel houses the 3-megapixel camera without flash.

The most interesting thing about the cell phone is its interface… or, shall we say “its interfaces…”. The GIGA-BYTE GSmart S1200 delivers several different, Flash.based home screen personalization packs to cover the face of Windows Mobile 6.5. All icons are large and skilfully crafted and most of the home screen designs seem heavily influenced by the Chinese culture and do like them.
