And that price could be a problem – the American company is asking for 382.50 GBP without taxes and shipping. Add taxes to the figure and you come to 459 GBP which is almost $750! That’s super steep even for a smartphone as awesome as the Venue Pro. Hopefully some carrier will add it to its portfolio and offer it for less on a contract.

Specs wise, Dell’s Windows Phone 7 device comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 4.1-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, HSPA and WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, tons of built-in storage and all other “standard for a modern smartphone” goodies.

Features Of Dell Venue Pro

Dell Venue Pro is powered by 1GHz (Scorpion Core) Qualcomm Snapdragon processor while graphics is supported by Adreno 200 GPU. The phone comes with a 8GB of internal memory storage but one of the major drawbacks of the phone is that it does not have a memory card slot for expansion.

The phone however is equipped with a 5 MP camera equipped with LED flash and autofocus and offers robust connectivity thanks to the presence of Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS and support for micro USB.

Dell Venue Pro is, however, pretty expensive as it bears a price tag of around Rs 35,000. Other smartphones with almost same features come at a lower price than Venue Pro and it is expected that the price of the phone will come down in coming days.

The Snapdragon powered droid couples Android 2.2 Froyo and Dell’s own Stage UI along with a 4.1″ AMOLED screen.

The Dell Venue looks similar to the Venue Pro but it’s only superficial – it dropped the keyboard and Microsoft OS in favor of a slimmer frame and Android. It uses the same Gorilla Glass protected 4.1″ WVGA AMOLED screen and ups the camera resolution to 8MP.

The Dell Venue is available immediately in Hong Kong for HK$3,999 ($514 or €390, cheaper than in Korea) though there’s no info on when it will hit the stores in other regions.

You get the Dell Venue, a Google Android Froyo-running device that will be the cousin of the Venue Pro, running Windows Phone 7. The 4.1 inch screen is actually the very durable Gorilla Glass screen, something which may compensate for the lack of keyboard. The Dell Venue will be actually released in Korea sometime this month, and launching for the pricetag of 700,000KRW, when translated into $606 US.

Do you think a device like this could work out, as the keyboard was really a big dealbreaker for a lot of people, but take that away, and it is really just a sleek looking Android device, which there are many of already.

Unlocked Dell Streak tablet/phones have been running Froyo for almost a month now, but carrier-branded devices had to wait till December. And while munching on frozen treats are probably not the best you could do in the cold weather, we’re sure Streak owners will enjoy Froyo and that new Stage UI that comes with it.

If you’ve missed it, the previous 2.1 Eclair update has added 720p video recording to the Dell Streak and it also brings compatibility for many apps, improved keyboard, pinch zooming and live wallpapers.

Anyway, the Froyo update for the Streak should come out this week and it will give apps a performance boost and enable Flash in the browser as well.

The handset was expected to launch with Dell in mid-November but the Venue Pro failed to materialize. The online electronics giant confirmed the handset was unexpectedly delayed but assured customers it was merely ramping up production to prepare for a big launch in the near future.

This highly anticipated launch date may be right around the corner as a recent change on Dell’s Home and Small Office website suggests the Venue Pro may start shipping on December 14th. The same page also hints at a price by listing the Venue Pr0 with an affordable $149 price tag after a two-year customer agreement with T-Mobile. Folks that prefer to shop without signing up for a contract will be able to snag the Venue Pro for a $499 off-contract price.

While this page is encouraging, keep in mind that the 14th is a preliminary ship date only. If Dell encounters other problems with the handset, this date can easily be pushed into 2011. The unlocked version of the Dell Streak now on sale also packs 32GB of internal memory. It’s a little pricey at $579, but you are getting this thing unlocked without carrier subsidies or contracts. Right now the unlocked version comes only in black, but will presumably come in red and white in the coming weeks and can be ordered now.

If you already own a Dell Streak and you’re a little miffed about the lack of Android 2.2 on your handset, fret not. According to Dell, the update will be available in the U.S. in late December. It sounds like it’s quite some time from now, but time will fly and it’ll be here before you know it.

First up, the XCD28 sports a 2.8-inch display (hence the name), a 3.2 megapixel cam, 200MB of internal storage expandable with up to 16GB worth of microSD, and FM radio; it sells for Rs. 10,990 (about $247) devoid of a contract. Moving upmarket a bit, the Rs. 16,990 ($382) XCD35 goes with a 3.5-inch capacitive display. Both devices feature 3G support for India’s up-and-coming high-speed networks, WiFi, Bluetooth, and that overwhelming sense of freedom that comes with not  signing a contract at the point of purchase. Look for the XCD28 to be available right now, while the 35 follows next month – no word on when we might see them outside India, but it turns out they’re little more than rebranded versions of ZTE’s Racer and Blade, so you can just pick ‘em up in ZTE livery if you’re elsewhere.

Although we only had a few minutes to fondle one during the Windows Phone 7 launch  Microsoft held early last week, we were impressed. It’s hefty and svelte, responsive and clean. The folks in the UK will soon be able to grab one for £499.99, or $667 U.S., from Expansys.

Unfortunately, we’re not hearing or seeing anything about carrier support – that goes for both Europe and North America. So if this puppy doesn’t get into the sub-$200 subsidized range, it’s going to be very difficult for Dell to gain any momentum with its Venue Pro. Hopefully that won’t be the case and that it will take a cue from the Streak, which doesn’t have carrier support in the U.S. and isn’t really selling very well at all.

T-Mobile hasn’t released the full specs or a launching price point but it appears like it will have a 4.1-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera and a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. I’d also expect it to include WiFi, GPS, assisted-GPS, 8 GB of internal storage, Bluetooth and access to T-Mobile’s 3G network. I don’t think it will be able to use the HSPA+ network, which is a shame.

Don’t look to walk into your T-Mobile store to get this, as the press release said, “The Dell Venue Pro is expected to be available in the U.S. in time for the holidays directly from Dell and select retailers with service from T-Mobile.”

It looks like the Dell Venue Pro will be an exclusive to T-Mobile and the company could be positioning it as a competitor to the BlackBerry in the corporate space. The Windows Phone 7 operating system should mean that it seamlessly integrates with the life of a mobile worker.

We know that Windows Phone 7 has a lot of consumer-friendly features, but the platform should also make the Dell Venue Pro play nice in corporate environments. Because the platform is made by Microsoft, Windows Phone 7 will have deep integration with Exchange servers, as well as e-mail integration with other types of mail services.

This will also be the only smartphone operating system to come preloaded with the official Microsoft Office application, which will let Dell Venue Pro users view and edit a variety of documents on the go.
